In my first term as your State Representative, we have committed more money for our public schools, secured more funding for school safety, continued to build our workforce, and removed barriers to securing quality employment and doing business in our state.
PROGRESS
Funding Youth Assistance Programs
Chuck authored a bill which launches a 2-year pilot project to fund Youth Assistance Programs across our state. This bill provides students with fewer opportunities the resources they need to thrive not only in school but also at home while creating a positive learning atmosphere for at-risk students to be successful.
Making Strides for Public Safety Officers
Chuck authored legislation to increase the benefits for public safety officers for the first time in 30 years. It is essential that we provide the families of these local heroes with the benefits they need if a tragedy were to strike for these officers that regularly put their lives on the line to make our communities safer.
Removing Barriers For Students and Families
Chuck authored a bill that passed unanimously through the Indiana House and Senate to remove the requirement of student income from effecting family eligibility for benefits such as SNAP and TANF. This legislation is essential for providing students with the opportunity to pursue work based opportunities.
School Intergenerational Pilot Project
Chuck created legislation that pairs our citizens over the age of 55 with at-risk students. This creates a better learning environment and a culture of safety throughout our schools. The project also catapults these students into educational and life success.
